In the early 1990's Wilgespruit engaged in a extensive consultation process with staff, donors, stakeholders and programme constituencies. The purpose of this process was to uncover core organisational values which would hold the identity of Wilgespruit as it moved into the New South Africa. After interviewing 200 people, collating their stories and seeking themes three core values were uncovered: Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation. Justice speaks to the healing and forgiveness work that has to happen in order to restore into right relationship victims and perpetrators. Peace is understood as socio-economic and political systems which allow individuals and communities to grow into their full potential. Integrity of Creation is an understanding of the deep inter-connectedness of all life and the reciprocity needed to sustain our planet. This led to the launch of Wilgespruit as a Peace Precinct for South Africa. On 21 March, 1996 the four Nobel Peace Laureates of South Africa became official Patrons by endorsing these values:
